Adobestock & other Stock Agencies like Pond 5 are rewarding Contributors for training AI models. Just recently I was awarded $259 USD by Adobestock with a firefly bonus. The program rewards contributors for their content that was used to train the new AI model called Firefly. On Oct 3rd Pond 5 awarded me $863 USD for dataset earnings.
The Adobe Stock Contributor program has a new feature called Firefly. Firefly is a family of creative generative AI models that can be used to create images. Adobe Stock Contributors are compensated for the use of their content in training the Firefly models. More information is on their site
Here is a summary of the program:
The program is open to all Adobe Stock contributors.
The bonus is based on the number of licenses sold for content that was used to train Firefly.
The bonus is not guaranteed, and the amount will vary depending on the number of licenses sold.
The bonus will be paid out once a year.
Adobe has already received permission from contributors to use their content to train Firefly.
Shutterstock also has the Contributor Fund which was created to compensate artists for their work being used in AI training models. Shutterstock also uses AI-powered editing tools to modify images for customers. These tools are built with the same ethical principles as the Shutterstock AI Image Generator. It discusses what data licensing is and how it works. In June 2023, Shutterstock introduced a new way for contributors to opt out of having their content included in datasets. Contributors receive a share of the revenue generated from datasets based on the amount of their content included.
Summary
Stock footage demand has increased in recent years driven by AI LLM's. Stock footage creators can earn additional revenue from their stock footage assets without additional effort. Adobestock & Shutterstock have created new creator funds for contributors to identify their earnings that are used to train AI models. As a stock footage creator this motivates me to continue to add new niche high quality stock footage content to stock agencies.
